Welcome to The Kennebunks A to Z exhibition. We are pleased to present to you this alphabetical romp through regional history and the Museum's permanent collections. In beginning with "A is for Abenaki" and ending with "Z is for Zion's Hill," you will learn about the people, places, broad themes and events that have shaped the Kennebunks over the centuries.

Our exhibition team approached this project with more than 110 years of cumulative memories and experiences in the Kennebunks. Guided by the premise that the exhibition needed to be truly representative, we also felt strongly that it should draw almost exclusively from the Museum's permanent collections so as to showcase the remarkable depth, diversity and scope of our holdings. In the end, the selection process was difficult but enjoyable. Suffice it to say that we had many more candidates for each letter of the alphabet than we had exhibit space in the buildings. Though the resulting exhibition reflects our collective selections, we hope to capture your interest and inspire you to come up with your own version of the "alphabet" reflective of your personal history in the Kennebunks.

Our intent is for the exhibition to be equally appealing to locals and those "from away." For long-time residents, we offer touchstones to the past, the proverbial trip down memory lane, and a fresh look at the familiar. For tourists, we provide an introduction to the region with the encouragement to explore beyond what is here.
