Daily Maine Fact

The Kennebec River route to Quebec is known as the Arnold Trail. But a white man first traveled this route, albeit in reverse, more than a century before Benedict Arnold's ill-fated Canadian invasion. Father Gabriel Druilletes left Quebec for Maine on this date in 1646. He was also the first white man to see Mount Kineo and ultimately got as far as Castine.
