This feature originally appeared on aroundmaine.com in 2002: Standing between the audience seats and the Kotzschmar Organ in Merrill Auditorium at Portland City Hall, you can imagine how it might feel to be a performer, with every eye in the house directed at you. At the time it was built in 1912, the Kotzschmar was the second largest organ in the world. In our picture you can see the lights behind the pipes over the stage. The day we were shooting, the organ was undergoing some routine maintenance and workers were tweaking the complex inner workings of the organ. Take a look at our gallery to get a very small sneak peak behind the scenes.
