Pensive
Pensive

UPDATE:Ginger has been returned again due to uneasiness and anxiety in trying to adapt to another new home. Ginger pushed out a screen and escaped onto a busy road where her owners feared for her safety and worried that they could not help her through this transition, despite the fact that they loved her dearly. While in her cat-free home Ginger was affectionate, loving and well-mannered. She may do best as a dog with lots of space, as she can be less than polite when meeting dogs on leash. Her preference is larger dogs, as toy and small breeds seem to push her chase button. Ginger has had so much transition and upheaval in the past year that each new setting is more stressful than the last. She seeks that special shepherd lover who can ride out the first few months of rough sailing and find the magnificent dog within just craving to bond with her guardians.

While a picture speaks a thousand words, photos do not do justice to the majestic and regal beauty of Ginger. A 5-6 year old long haired German Shepherd, Ginger traveled from a rescue group in Indiana to finally find her place in the sun. Confident, self-possessed and very comfortable of her place in her world, Ginger is one of the rare dogs who never has to flash her confidence to others - they just know. Her glorious coat requires regular grooming and maintenance, and Ginger is a bit on the chubby side under all that hair. During her time in a foster home Ginger was reported to have fantastic house manners and has known life only as an indoor, family companion. Pushy with other dogs, Ginger will do best as queen of her canine castle with playmates on occasion. While she is fine with toys and belongings around people, Ginger does not share well with others of the 4 -legged variety. Her play drive is funny and intense, and when Ginger gets ready to play she means business. Tennis balls rock her world, as do tug toys with someone fun on the other end to tug back. No cats, toy breed dogs or critters please, as Ginger can exhibit a prey drive when small creatures take off running. Her exposure to kids has been with those 10-12 years and older. A Meet Your Match™ orange "Goofball", Ginger can march to her own drummer when the spirit moves her. This dog is custom made for those who adore the intelligence, problem solving ability and sheer magnificence of the breed. PensivePensive: Looking anything but pensive, this cutie pie is a 1-2 year old female shepherd mix found as a stray in Scarborough. Looking for love, but no one is looking for Pensive, it is hard to believe she is not missed by her family. At 45 pounds, Pensive is an active, agile gal who needs to gain confidence in a new home. A bit under socialized and tentative in new settings, Pensive should respond well to loads of treats and praise for being brave and trying new things. A Meet Your Match™ orange "Goofball", Pensive is exuberant in her greetings and rolls for tummy rubs. When left alone Pensive is active, yet she finds toys and rawhide to be fun tings to work on by herself. Very responsive to play, Pensive loves to play tug and fetch and takes great pleasure in destroying plush toys; this girl like to play! While Pensive seems to know "sit" and "down", her leash manners leave much to be desired. Use of the Weiss Walkie is rapidly improving her pulling on leash. Intense in her movements and interest in small creatures, Pensive will not be placed with cats or in homes where small animals such as rabbits and rodents are kept as pets. Pensive will enter her crate with encouragement and new owners may wish to continue this process so she has a safe place to call her own for the times she needs to be home alone. Pensive is available for adoption but will remain in the shelter until after her spay surgery on Wednesday, September 20th. BerryShakira: I’m really to purr and rub my way into your heart. Like the famous singer, I’ll sing or purr you a very special song and I just know you’ll fall in love with me. I am a 3 year old female cat with long grey hair. The shelter took me in because I was abandoned by my previous family. The shelter staff says I’m a talkative and affectionate girl who is a bit on the shy side at first, until I warm up to you. But don’t worry….we’ll be singing a duet in no time at all!
